R&D / Technical Manager – £ Competitive

Stephenson Personal Care is a leading supplier of speciality soap bases for the personal care industry and having recently launched its range of emulsifiers and solubilisers is now looking to expand its technical functions.

Supported by years of technical expertise, we combine innovation with a flexible approach to deliver tailor made, cost effective, solutions for various specific applications, and have the ability to respond rapidly to market trends and our customers’ demands.

Reporting to the General Manager, the role will be responsible for a team of formulators, overseeing their day to day duties, as well as coordinating and managing new product development projects. A proactive, hands-on approach is essential, as is the ability to work closely with the commercial team to evaluate and implement the technical strategy. You will also be responsible for the transition from laboratory sample to full-scale plant production and customer trials.

Candidates should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a chemistry related discipline, ideally with a Cosmetic Science qualification, and must have management experience within the Personal Care market. You will be able to respond to the fast-moving demands of the retail sector and will have excellent interpersonal skills.

Graduates and students

Stephenson Group is passionate about offering support to the next generation of chemical specialists. Each year we provide several 12 month work placements to Chemistry degree students from local universities. These placements help to develop and expand their knowledge and working experience and a solid platform on which to succeed.

Stephenson Group also works closely with several local schools, offering weekly work experience placements to students, and providing interview practice sessions. We hold Science Experience Days twice a year in which groups of students have the opportunity to be play a part in research and development as it happens in our laboratories.
